China's renewable energy investments have surged since 2021, driven by the energy transition signals from the "dual carbon" goals set in 2020. Both state-owned enterprises and the private sector have significantly increased their investments in renewable energy.

China’s coal power expansion is driven by two key factors. First, the staggering pace of electricity demand growth, fueled by manufacturing, continues to surge. Second, extreme heatwaves this summer have pushed power loads to unprecedented levels.
