It's not impossible to look back on the positives of Iwata's career without ignoring his faults.

I had a Wii U. I bought a 3DS well before its first discount. I know what a TRULY dire Nintendo looks like, so to see revisionism about that era compared to the Switch of all things is fucking crazy.

And even beyond that, Nintendo's E3 2015 Direct was one of the most controversial livestreams ever. Almost EVERYONE hated that shit -- I was one of the few who didn't, at the time. Iwata likely passed away with that in the back of his mind.

But I believe he genuinely did love gaming as a hobby.

Like, my thing with Iwata is, he was a flawed businessman, and Nintendo during those days was very draconian. I forgot about it until I saw a few posts mentioning it now -- that Nintendo Video Creator's thing for YouTube literally launched toward the tail-end of his tenure as CEO.

Dudes were calling on him to resign during the entire 3DS / Wii U era, and now he's treated like the patron saint of Nintendo. How he was treated back then was fucked up and the revisionism around him now is just as bad.

I think it's been stated that this is just inherent to how the Sega/IDW licensing and oversight process works.

Genuinely, Shadow stonks have not been this high since the mid-2000s, they'd be leaving money on the table not having a Shadow one-off book or a Team Dark four-parter.
