It's thinking
And that's every game I rolled credits on this year! It felt so good keeping track of all of these and getting to cross off so many games I'd been wanting to play for so long. Here's to 2026 where my goal is to play through all of the Kingdom Hearts games!

Metroid Prime 4 (Switch 2) - I didn't expect to finish this game this year but I got into a groove with it and beat it in a couple weeks. I stand by my initial response: I like it, it's not groundbreaking, it's just the sequel to Prime 3, for all the good and bad that that carries with it

Mother 3 (Analogue Pocket) - Truly a fitting end for the series. Like I'm not really interested in there being any more Mother games because this one tied it all off so effectively for me. Just please make it more accessible (though we all know that's never going to happen)

Earthbound (Switch) - I have mixed feelings on this game. The first half was pretty fun but pulled back on the openness I liked about the first game, meanwhile the second half was such an awful slog for me. The way I put it, I like Earthbound, I don't like Mother 2

Mother 1 (Switch) - I played through all three of these this year and wow what a series. Its the kind of series that makes me feel lucky I get to be alive at a time when I can experience it. I've also gotta say it but Mother 1 is my favorite in the series for sure

Final Fantasy 16 (PS5) - Great game. Not my favorite FF but after the mess that was 15 (not hating the game itself but it took a while for it to get to a finished state), it felt crazy just getting such a competent mainline FF game again.

Virtua Fighter 5 Revo (PC) - Every year I have like a month where I'll get super into fighting games. This year I tried out VF5 and it was really fun. I have high hopes for 6. Feels weird to say I "beat" a game like this but I did technically roll credits on the arcade mode so...I guess that works

American Mcgee's Alice (PC) - This game has always lived in the back of my mind so it was really fun finally getting to play it. It honestly became one of my favorite games of all time I like it even more than the sequel even if its less accessible.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus (PS2) - For some reason this was the game I was always jealous of not having a playstation over as a kid, no others, just this one for some reason. Finally lived out that childhood dream getting this and it was pretty great, can't wait to play the sequels
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - This game blew my mind in so many ways. Playing on original hardware, I still can hardly believe the PS2 can handle the size of some of these. The 13th colossus especially that has to be one of the biggest things I've ever seen animated on any game console

Final Fantasy 2 (PS1) - This one was great. I've always been a defender of this game and think its unfairly hated. I love the darker tone and the overall setting and narrative. Especially for an NES game originally there's a lot here to love.

Final Fantasy 1 (PS1) - It was fun going back to where this series started. It's both very simple and quite engaging having a very epic feeling story in overall scope. I can see myself playing this again even if it was a slog at times.
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Crash Bandicoot 2 (PS1) - Very fun game but that's all I can really say. The only thing that stopped me from selling it like I did with cyber troopers is how cheap it is so it doesn't feel worth it.
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Xenogears (PS1) - Loved this one. Disc 2 is a lot like Phantasmagoria, I don't know how to talk about its quality, but it sure as hell is an experience that's stuck with me. Billy is the best party member too
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Dreamcast) - This game has Amingo so it's immediately the best game ever made. I randomly had a chance to try the full arcade cabinet earlier in the year too and this was the game that got me to buy the official Dreamcast fightstick
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) - I started the year with Sonic Adventure 1 and planned on finishing out the year with Adventure 2. I beat a few others after this one but I held off on playing this one until around November so I could hype it up a bit. I need to get the good time clears though
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Fighters Megamix (Saturn) - Hot take, but Saturn had the better party fighting game, not N64! It's so simple but so simple but so fun AM2 was just on another level when it came to arcadey types of games
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Outrun (Saturn) - I bought this game on a whim and I'm so glad I did. It's honestly one of the most relaxing games I've ever played and just takes me back to times I've been on roadtrips with people I care about. Anytime I'm stressed I put this on for a couple rounds to help calm down some
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Puyo Puyo Sun (Saturn) - I'm kind of cheating with this one since I only beat the beginner mode which only had like three matches, but credits did technically roll (even if they rolled really fast and the game told me to do the harder ones), very fun though and I'll be going back anyways
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Virtual On: Cyber Troopers (Saturn) - One of the only games I sold after beating it. I was super excited for it but found it just kind of ok. It was fun enough but after having already played through Armored Core on PS1 I really didn't get a lot of mileage out of this game
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn) - Absolutely one of the best games I ever played and I'm so glad I played the first two before going into this one. This series introduced me to one of my favorite artists and was such a joy and such a unique example of the jrpg genre
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei (Saturn) - Pretty fun game. I actually prefer the first one but I doubt I'll ever beat that one with its lack of saving. I wasn't really enchanted with the settings in this one but it's still a treat getting to explore this world given its roots in Moebius
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
NiGHTS into Dreams (Saturn) - Really fantastic game. To me it feels like a distillation of the essence of "fun" in terms of overall controls. It's just such a joy to fly around and make laps and watch the visuals as you loop through the stages
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Phantasmagoria (PC) - I'm not big on point-and-click games but this one was just so compelling I had to see it through. I played a lot of really amazing games this year and I don't know how this ranks in quality to them, but I sure as hell remember my time with it
December 28, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Chrono Trigger (PS1) - This game has been hanging over me since I was a kid, it's probably the single player game I've put the most time into over the course of my life. It felt good to finally finish this one. I had the PS1 version and the loadtimes were noticeable but not a dealbreaker
