It’s a dark choco espresso cake with a coffee cheesecake middle layer, covered in dark choco ganache with more dark choco grated on top. It’s so perfect, I’m not even a chocolate person but it’s not sweet at all without being too bitter and aaaah,,,, it’s divine,,,, thank you kitchen god 🙏

He thinks he might hate this, for whatever spirit a word such as that can have towards his hollowed out core. It is not that he is unaware of the nature of the tests that were performed on them. The upgrades, the studies, the "medicines" and injections. They are all experiments, no different from the generic clones they'd water and grow in glorified test tubes. Much the same, they are designed to never say no. To always submit to the King's word as law because the King's word is law. Was. Not anymore. But is that true? Their father formed them to his liking in the womb and even his greatest successes weren't good enough for his greed. Maybe because he hated to see the one thing he lacked—a spine. So why not tear it out and replace it with something obedient. They all have different restraints, but they are restraints nonetheless.

He blinks at the pair of stockinged knees suddenly before him, flicking his gaze up to reach the big brown eyes staring down at him with concern. Over her shoulder stands a familiar bulky figure with grown out, bleached hair. A hand reaches out and moves his bangs and he flinches, both from proximity and embarrassment. It’s been days since he’s washed his hair, days since he’s done much of anything aside from rotting through his floorboards. The bathroom has the mirror. He doesn’t particularly want to encounter it again. He swallows and all it accomplishes is sparking pain down his desert dry throat, but he has no chance of speaking otherwise, so he does it. “I’m fine,” he says and it’s by far the least believable lie to ever pass his lips. A breakfast of grit and gravel is a generous excuse for the state his voice is in. It wouldn’t have mattered if the words were delivered with perfect ease, anyways. Not when he attempts to lever himself up to his knees only for his arms to give out near instantly and send him crashing back to the floor in a pathetic heap. He suppresses the urge to curl in on himself and wither into a husk at inhuman speeds, but just barely. Instead, he just closes his eyes and waits for the ridicule to begin.

This is wrong. This isn’t Akira. Whoever this is in front of him feels so far away from the boy he knows. Some stunted thing inside him thrums in displeasure, something that makes Loki writhe in his mind and Robin Hood beat against his chest. Something that attempts to grow, to reach out, only for the sensation to be snuffed out in an instant. An ember doused beneath a bucket of ice water. “This is how your justice ends.” He pulls the trigger, trying to catch the ashes of thought in the water. It falls through his fingers; a bullet from a gun, water through a sieve. Akira’s face, eyes wide and frozen, wrongwrongwrong as it drips red. The blood pools and glistens on the table, an unnatural mirror to reflect the grin he didn’t even feel twist his face. Heart rocketing in his chest, he places the gun delicately in Akira’s (is it?) limp hand. He feels sick. His feels a moment away from hyperventilating. His breathing remains unbothered, even. His steps are calm and measured as he leaves the room without a backwards glance even though he needs to see, he needs to know— Three, four, five steps down the hall and he feels it again. Robin fades into the background with a reluctant hum while Loki continues screeching and clawing until he’s forced back into his box. That was the Metaverse. It was the Metaverse, he knows the Metaverse, he’s spent innumerable days in that timeless haze. He would recognize it anywhere. So, why didn’t he? Why didn’t—no, he did, he felt it when it happened, when Sae showed him that phone, he knew it felt wrong and right and familiar and the gun didn’t have the right recoil, the right weight, but cognitions don’t bleed, they don’t lie there lifelessly for dozens of seconds, but he was there— All he needs to do is turn back. Walk back in the room, look for the body, confirm the death. He’s the only one that will check for it, anyways, so if he doesn’t know then no one will. He needs to do this, now, Shido can wait— He leans against the cold concrete wall and pulls out his phone, thumb finding a number with nauseating instinct before bringing it to his ear. —no, no, why is he doing this? He needs to turn back, he needs to check the room, his phone, his Nav, he needs to finish the job or figure out damage control before he’s the mess being cleaned up down here. Instead, this time he feels the way his face relaxes against his will. His heart wants to crawl up his throat, but his voice is light and unbothered as the call answers.

“Akira, I’m going to kill you.” Akira blinks his eyes open. Gives the words a moment to settle. Jerks up and back, looking at Goro’s (still adorable) sleepy face. “What?” he chokes out. Goro blinks back before a soft, affectionate smile pulls at his lips. The corners pull until they sharpen into the knife edge Akira loves. “I’m going to kill you, Akira,” he croons. His hand drifts down to cup his cheek. “But seeing as I’m rather fond of you, I’d quite like it if you didn’t die.” Akira takes a moment to focus on the touch. There’s no point in getting worked up right now. It’s better if this doesn’t escalate into a fight. Well, another one. He swallows and offers, “You could just not kill me, then.” The hand on his cheek drops limply to the bed, Goro’s expression replaced by cool impassivity. It’s a mask, but not exactly a false one. “I’m afraid that’s not an option.” He sighs, not surprised. It’s not like he didn’t already know, but to hear it so directly… Well, he’s not unaffected, but he should probably be more concerned than he is.

Goro makes a strangled sound in the back of his throat for a half a second before he chokes it off. It turns into an exasperated huff, much too forced to be anything but over-dramatics. “Only to ensure you actually rest. God forbid you listen to a word any authority figure says to you. Now,” he says before Akira can defend himself. “Don’t move. I’m trying to not add onto your extensive list of injuries.” If Akira’s entire body didn’t feel like a beat up sandbag, he’d squirm around just for that, even at the risk of bodily injury. His body does, however, feel like it weighs approximately one million pounds and the meds Takemi gave him are starting to make him feel fuzzy. Goro moves quickly, cautious as he folds himself into the space between the wall and Akira. The second he settles his weight, Akira heaves himself onto his side and flops gracelessly across Goro’s chest. He’s so warm and his heart still beats as quickly as it did the first time Akira did this. “I told you to stop fucking moving,” he hisses through his teeth. It doesn’t stop him from wrapping his arms protectively around his back once again, one finger ghosting circles along his spine.
