It's basically a story for 40-50 year olds who were anti-bush then voted for Trump (Adi Shankar attended his inauguration.) a modern right wing commentary that American interventionism is bad but with modern anti-immigration rhetoric sprinkled in.

The politics confused me until I learned about Adi Shankar being a Trump supporter and attending his inauguration.
Stuff like the debate between Dante and White Rabbit over whether or not it was ok to let the refugees in made more sense. It's a modern right wing commentary on the War on Terror.
