Intellectuals, propagandists - early republican Turkey
Most authentic experience that you can get after moving to New York is to clean a roach infested apartment between two exterminations.

The section goes beyond a single article; it includes several pieces and a short introduction. This project is the result of years of effort and collaboration with Emmanuel Szurek. I am very happy to see it published.
This special issue of the European Journal of Turkish Studies features a section called “Le Meurtre et la Langue,” co-authored by Emmanuel Szurek and me, which explores how early republican popular educators discussed the genocide in 1930s Turkey.

My article about the category of "münevver" in 1930s Turkey is finally published. I dedicate it to my cat Nuri—who always politically intervened in the name of his enlightenment.

What is a “münevver” in 1930s Turkey?

If you mentor students from MENA, please consider sending them my way.

I started a Zoom writing solidarity group after the 2023 earthquakes, and we’re still active. This week, members said it was a helpful space after a devastating hotel fire in Turkey.

Please reach out if our group might help.

I know nobody cares but X also blocked accounts of many journalists and news outlets in Turkey. It is not only “toxic” it is against the press freedom.
NBC: Mississippi Free Press "Bluesky is getting 20 times the engagement or more than Twitter,” Pittman said. “Seeing a social media platform that doesn’t throttle links really makes it clear how badly we were being limited.”

Journalists flock to Bluesky as X becomes increasingly 'toxic'
Journalists are finding more readers and less hate on Bluesky than on the platform they used to know as Twitter.
