Just saw this. A book on the origin and dispersal of Proto-Indo-European. By a journalist, so it will be intelligible to laymen while probably enraging academic linguists & Bronze Age scholars lol

This has turned out to be quite good; a perspective on Cicero through his trials as a lawyer as the Republic crumbled in the 40’s-60’s BC

It helps if this is not your first book on Cicero, Caesar, Cato etc though. Some points are granular

Cato was much admired for his Stoic republican virtues which were legendary. They also were the kind of fanatical intransigence that provoked the civil war that destroyed the Republic

If NATO is to continue with US as a guarantor then Europe needs to move to create a viable and realistic conventional deterrence
