It gets even better when you read it. Kicks off with "how dare poor countries not know their place" then settles into "we should simply do the things that got us into this mess" with a side of "citation: rich dudes who benefit from all this"

@diana1988.bsky.social and @vivschwarz.bsky.social two months later and I've cracked it! It's not a name, it's an idiosyncratic form of 'Göttingen'. Another anonymous MS in the same collection includes a reference to a book published in Göttingen that appears exactly the same way.

I've got a research trip to Hungary coming up and need your tips!

I will be in Sárospatak and Debrecen (emphatically not Budapest). I'll have my work cut out clearing through everything I need in the archives, but looking for tips or tricks, especially (vegetarian) food.

Google gave me this while trying to find out if some translations of Meiners' writings have been published yet.

Basically nothing here is correct.

1) There's no 2010 translation of Meiners' work

2) There's no translation at all titled 'On the Race-Historical Development of the Human Species'

Another banger from Google AI. Might have to make a short notice road trip from Belgrade to Zagreb (then on to Italy) so thought I’d google for how the border works. Google AI seems to think Serbia is in Schengen (completely contradicting the pages it links to)

Another win for Google AI!

Completely unable to figure out that the Crai being compared with Penny supermarket is the supermarket Crai, not the cryptocurrency.

I swear old-school google would have had 0 problem with this

“What if we solved one inhumane situation by turning it into a far more inhumane one?”

JUST PROCESS THE DAMN CLAIMS. IT’S NOT THAT HARD

Germanists – handwriting help requested!

Desperately trying to figure out who this is. Presumably studied at Göttingen c. 1796. The 1st name in image 2 appears to be Fejes, which I matches a 'Johan von Fejes' but nobody with a name that fits the second. They may be different people (sharing notes?)

Second day in Bern:

The weather is pleasant and the librarians have been extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The art museum has a great collection at a reasonable price (10CHF – about what you’d pay in Germany).

On the other hand, a portion of fries cost more than 7 euros 😱

50. If you want to summarize the Enlightenment in one image, you can do a lot worse than this sketch of Kant obsessively mixing mustard.
