As a parent of a trans kid, part of what shatters my heart is that The Discourse around trans kids is just loud and constant. She has good framing, but the barrage of hate is exhausting. Every day for her is so much more work than for her peers, because she has to hold up her shields constantly.

Coming from the wrong side of the tracks college was everything to me. And it was hard without money then. These arguments too conveniently align with disingenuous attacks on the value of higher ed and the rising financial barriers for working-class kids.

I should have known better after dropping out of high school. But a GED somehow led to a PhD 20 years later, an education I don't even need in my tech job!
