With the iron if it has a sponge replace it with a brass cleaning kit.
Get leaded solder not low melt, flux and wick.

Learn to tin your iron and make sure you keep it clean, dont let it get pitted. Beast case is to get an iron with replacable tips incase you do ruin a tip

Watch plenty of tutorials

Not the person you asked but any multi-bit precision screwdriver kit would be a good start. As for soldering iron, make sure you get one with a nice stand or at least get one for it.

Do not get a butane iron, and whatever iron you do get make sure you find out if its ferenheit or celsius 1/2
