Hobby work: Warhammer 40k - Deathwatch Chaplain
FINALLY got to one of the models in my shame-pile for 40k - my old Dark Vengeance Chaplain, who I'd stripped the paint from, and put on a 40mm with a tactical rock cause he's a firstborn short king.

So continuing the monocromatic 'black pennies' mercenary company, thought I would paint this warcaster and 'jack the same way I painted Magnus and Invictus. I might go back over them at some point.

The box was the same cost as getting the pirate squads on their own. I wanted to do a "rag tag bunch of randoms" inspired my skeleton crew and SWTOR. So here's maul inspired by a certain swtor cinematic.

As distinct from traitor guardsmen, I wanted something to be off about the cultists for my chaos necromancers, so I tried a blue wash and I think it went quite well.

I have been lax in posting because I was trying to cut down on doomscrolling. But I was improving my mental health with some painting projects recently!
A kitbashed warhammer 40k inquisitor model made from a stormcast, escher and tempestus scion parts. Lore: The inquisitor, a member of a faction calling themselves Castigators, known for their gold masks, goes by the name Nova. She has a dark black robe with silver lining, silver armour and purple tomes and scrolls. Her armour is marked with purity seals and she carries a Combi-needler, a full Poison vial also visible on her belt. Her right arm is a raised power fist weapon with blue energy. She stands on a ruined coppery cityscape amidst green sludge. Five deathwatch terminator models from the warhammer 40k franchise. The terminators have a mix of close range weapons including a thunder hammer, three pairs of blue and green lightning claws, and one heavy flamer. They all bear the black deathwatch armour with silver arm and gold embossed symbols. Their powered armour has red glowing eyes and lights. They stand on ruined copper cityscapes amidst green sludge. One painted primarch model from the warhammer 40k franchise. Rather than the standard colours for Roboute Guilliman, this model has its helmet on and a pearlescant silver sheen to its futuristic armour. It wields a blue flaming sword and stands on a copper rubble pile surrounded by green waste. Lore-wise, the model fills a monster/vehicle role for some of my armies, so the idea was that this entity is "The Invocation of the Emperor" - an entity summoned through the sacrifice and prayers of the faithful of Balthinus IV, who believed they could summon the emperor by giving their flesh and will to a giant suit of armour. The creature that answered them took upon a form that very much mirrored their beliefs in image, and protects their world like a divine guardian. The inquisitors, though being deeply suspicious of its origin and purity, tolerate its use as it seems to assist the populace in following broad ecclesiarchical doctrine. Don't look a gift guardian in the mouth. One deathwatch gravis captain, one deathwatch captain and one deathwatch Lieutenant from the warhammer 40k miniatures line. All three have black space-knight armour, with gold affectations and a silver arm. The leader has a grey-red cloak and the others have grey-red tabards. Lore-wise, as these models are either used as HQ choices or a stand-in for Marneus Calgar, the Gravis model is known as Supreme Commander Actium, with the two others being his honour guard. Actium himself wields a powerful deathwatch relic blade, and a power fist with attached combi-melta for ranged attacks. His bodyguards both wield storm shields and green power swords. All three stand on coppery ruined cityscape bases with green toxic waste around them.

They stand on coppery gravel and metallic gratings with radioactive green sludge underneath.
