I could go on and on and on here about the AI director, the art design and direction making the game readable even when your vision is obscured, the subtle ways in which it encourages cooperation in players, but maybe at this point I should be writing a retrospective video essay script haha

And as someone who played competitive versus and expert realism this is all so important to understand for success! This felt like rereading the sacred texts to me haha. But it just goes to show purpose and intent in the design of every aspect of the game.

This video by NormStorm on the fundamentals of the common infected at high level play inspired these posts. I really don't think a video like this could be made for any other game in the genre's trash mobs.

Some hit closer than others. The Warhammer "-tide" games have come the closest to L4D's DNA but due to their meta progression systems they lose a lot of the elegance in simplicity that L4D championed. No matter who you were or how good you were, we all held the same guns, all threw the same pipes.

I'm a huge fan of the 4 player horde shooter genre. I play a lot of them, but I find myself constantly comparing their merit against the design of L4D. It feels as though the design lessons learned by Valve are constantly lost on the new generation of games in the genre.

Should also mention I meet the recommended specs. Doesn't seem like the framerate issues stem from my hardware

Alright after updating my drivers I was able to make it into some matches. The connection was abysmal. Shots weren't connecting properly and my framerate was stuttering between 40-20 fps when there were many zombies on screen. Otherwise! It was fun! I think the game has the sauce it just needs work
