Your skin cell renewal can take 28 days or more. You have to keep using active ingredients to keep this renewal going. Be consistent and take pictures of your skin every 2-3 months!

When you start your skincare routine you can grow impatient with how long things take to show improvements in the skin and that’s down to the ingredients needing time to interact with skin cells.

Tired of shaving or waxing altogether? Consider laser! Lasers such as ND:Yag are safe for darker skin tones. It targets the hair follicle, reducing ingrown hairs long-term. It can also help hyperpigmentation.

To reduce hyperpigmentation as a result of ingrown hairs, as well as #exfoliation, you may want to use products to brighten the area. Before applying a moisturiser, you may want to incorporate a brightening serum. ✨

Make sure you are using moisturisers that will support the skins barrier after hair removal. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides are great for barrier repair. 🧴

🧽 Before you shave/wax gently exfoliate the area and then maintain this 1-2 times weekly using products with AHAs/BHAs (like glycolic or salicylic acid) to prevent dead skin buildup.

Avoid tight clothing as friction can worsen ingrown hairs.

🛀 Good hygiene is also important. You may want to wipe the area with an antibacterial product such as clinicept to reduce bacteria.

For the shavers and the waxers!

If you are set on shaving, make sure you are using a clean razor 🪒 Avoid dry shaving and shave in the direction of the hair growth.

If you are waxing, make sure you go to therapists who treat coarser hair (advice from my personal experience!!)

Pseudofolliculitis also know as ingrown hairs occur when hair grows back into the skin, often due to shaving or waxing. This can lead to inflammation, irritation, and #hyperpigmentation.
