The study shows how bus users craft their own paths, sometimes in conflict with official norms and regulations. We argue for the importance of moving beyond efficiency metrics to explore lived experiences of urban mobility in Hong Kong (and elsewhere).

This first-of-its-kind study combines the unique dual emic perspective of Ho Wen Lo as both bus driver and physical geographer, working together with me as an etic human geographer, to reveal hidden power dynamics of public transportation.
