Doom was a guardian for a short while so maybe that could be the reason since Doom doesn't appear to be the big bad here.

No offense to Spidey or Arcsys, but we should have had Starlord lead a team. Avengers, X-Men, Villains, Midnight Suns, and Guardians. Would have loved Miles instead of Peter and had a champions team, but that would never have happened sadly.
