as I said above easier to do when you have the muscle memory of having done it for a long time rather than pull it off later in life

yea our thing is single menu. There is a massive effort to set up something that works for most requirements but everyone also accepts they're not getting their first preference on there either

absolutely wouldn't be able to pull this off with a fresh group of folks

there's a group of people we've been doing this with almost once a year for a long long time now, and there is only one rule, is to start when you're really really young so that the intolerable bits are parts of the built-in camaraderie. I know I know, "advice I can use, Z, tyvm"

I love the beautiful execution of the double tap: be frugal to achieve your dream.... of being a portfolio landlord

FOHF running round the office screaming at French colleagues: "Gael Clichy! Abou Diaby! Bacary Sagna!"

The modal British voter thinks that pensioners are the group who gets the least good deal from the state! You can't have a serious conversation either about shrinking the state or expanding the tax base from that starting point!

Social media managers scrambling around to find the phone number of Pascal Cygan is really quite the scene www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...

the actual pressure on location is not the same though. Sell centre to buy bigger in the sticks so kids and grandkids can visit at Xmas, vs some of the stuff you're hearing today

also true of household savings being conservatively earmarked for bank of Mum & Dad use later (loanable funds, natch)

yea an interesting effect of housing being what it is is (small circle KLAXON, don't policy-reason out of personal observation RED FLAG) a lot of people who could normally do other choices and downsize hold to their sqft because they fully expect the kids to boomerang home

funny enough in the US the complete opposite probably happened : the enormous width of the services sector interface meant everybody felt it, and even people who were theoretically in favour of the policy direction ("worker's revenge, yay") started feeling some way about the cost of their burrito

I guess what offends me most with these people, at an almost personal level, is that they long for the sweet dividends of the christian democrat paternalist, with zero of its sense of duty

yes, overall there is thing in the train of thought that goes "Thatcherism happened <insert goose meme: MANDATED BY WHO?> ... and then the youth left town, those bastards"

I am now curious if there is some linguistic theory as to why adverbs specifically are the worst drifters
