Suren Pillay holds the AC Jordan Chair in African Studies, and is Director of the Centre for African Studies at the University of Cape Town.

This year's Carl Schlettwein Lecture, held by Suren Pillay, will examine the complex relationship between colonial legacies and postcolonial futures from a Southern African vantage point after the end of apartheid.

This year, the @zasb.unibas.ch Summer School honours Valentin-Yves Mudimbe's work and engages with the contributions of African Studies not only to knowledge about Africa, but also to the renewal of the very tools through which we produce knowledge, namely concepts, theories, and methods.
