I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people are so against it, like none of the arguments I keep seeing make any sense to me or are that big of an issue.
I would love for them to point out a social VR platform that has DMs and tell me with a straight face it would be better off without it.

If you genuinely think implementing a native DM feature will cause such social chaos that people stop visiting each other and most instances become isolated and VRChat as a whole take a popularity loss, then I don't think I could say anything to change your mind.

I don't agree with policing how users should enjoy VRChat.
I personally get irritated when people are glued to mirror walls and refuse to move elsewhere, but that's their call to make. If someone logs on to only DM with people, they should be allowed to do it despite if someone might get mad for it.

For sure, there will be some negatives, just like how there were some negatives with chat boxes (OSC hardware/spotify info spammers for one).
I've made my case in the feedback forums, and I'm mostly just repeating myself on other sites to hopefully change some minds.

For sure, there will be some negatives, just like how there were some negatives with chat boxes (OSC hardware/spotify info spammers for one).

VRChat friends wouldn't change how things have been for several years by now.
I remember the fears how chat boxes were gonna make everyone into a mute and no one would use their mic again, and I would say that didn't happen. Just like how native DMs won't turn users into zombies that ignore you.

I completely reject the idea that a native DM feature would make the "Standing Simulator" situation worse in any meaningful way. People are already using overlays to DM people across several platforms, browse the web, watch videos, etc, and making it less of a headache to get in touch with [...]

Even IF they use it, people don't always feel comfortable giving out their discord to everyone they meet in VRChat or set their status to busy when playing in VR. Using invites to communicate with others feels bad, and you can only make a custom message once per hour so that's not a real solution.

Exactly, I have a local-only contact receiver with a condition check per shirt material and if it becomes true (interacting with a shirt in the world) then it simply goes to that state. In theory someone *could* change my shirt if they knew the exact strings I'm using, which I think is kinda funny.

VRC avatar "scripting" are just a node graph with int, floats and bools. My avatar has contact receivers that is looking for specifically named strings, if a contact sender collides with my avatar and has that string, then I can activate that state and change to that shirt. Hope that makes sense.

The World Dynamics SDK is bringing over the physbones and contacts receiver/sender components that used to be exclusive to the avatar SDK, to the world SDK.
Contacts are the main method for more advanced avatar-to-avatar interactions, but now you can have world-to-avatar or vice versa interactions.
