Mostly I talk about myself, climate change, environment, probably some tech and governance stuff and Malaysia and UK stuff. And myself (must emphasise!). The little meowster in my avatar is Kavi.
I'm glad you rehydrated at least!

Drink some water and eat something sweet before you do that!

Anyway, turns out my tyre was beyond repair so had to replace a new one! Now vegging out thinking about how I was supposed to do a literature review today. Oh well.

Adventures with a flat, part 5. I gave up and took it to the shop (after inflating with my emergency tyre inflator so I could take it down to the petrol station and inflate it properly there, so I could drive to the shop). They use a machine to unscrew and screw, which is why it's so hard.

Adventures with a flat, part 4. Youtube videos say loosen the nuts before you jack. So I got the wrench and... They're tight. So tight that my entire 60kg (plus lunch) weight can't loosen them. And that's where we are for now. Shall I try to loosen them again? Or just give up and head to the shop?

Adventures with a flat, part 3. While I had lunch, I was hit by inspiration and asked Google where my jack and tools were. My jack was under my passenger seat! My tools.... had been removed from the car a while back and I eventually located them in my apartment. Back downstairs I go.

Adventures with a flat, part 2. Decided I'd just inflate and drive down to the tyre shop. Used my emergency tyre inflator which came with the car. It plugs into the cigarette lighter. Inflated the tyre back up, then went up for lunch.

Oh yeah! Mine connect to my phone so i can use it for phone audio as well. I wasn't a fan though so I disconnected that part. Still use my phone app to adjust volume and to switch between different environments.

I was thinking about it the other day! Because it's a lot of extremely fast processing plus battery plus of course mic and speakers in a very small package. Have not delved into it but maybe before my next pair 😅

Thank you! Yes, I understand part of it is just a matter of getting used to things and rewiring my brain a little.

Because my hearing "loss" is not too bad it's also not a huge difference having them in, but I do notice the world is a lot noisier and I do sometimes pull them out for some calm. I also like checking if I can hear with/without them in different situations because they're so subtle

It's been pretty good. Without hearing aids I am usually fine in conversation but in loud spaces, places with background noise and big rooms without mics it becomes a little susah (HATE the "I don't need a mic, right?" folks). So hearing aids helps me in these situations

Finally, note: DOGE and the Trump administration are so opposed to remote work that they rushed CDC employees back to the office without active shooter training.

Other security measures failed because of staffing shortages. The shooter killed himself because no one else managed to.

CDC leadership also hasn’t been very communicative. To be fair to them, their staff who would would have dealt with this situation were mostly fired by DOGE.

So my fellow civil servants at the CDC feel abandoned. They are hated with a murderous rage and no one cares.

But a white guy with a COVID conspiracy manifesto isn’t news at this point. After all, that’s who runs the government now!

The CDC is a part of Health & Human Services, headed by RFK Jr., whose conspiracy-addled ideology is indistinguishable from the motivations of this terrorist.
The CDC shooting was public health’s Jan. 6
“In RFK Jr.’s America, it will never be safe to practice public health or medicine," write an epidemiologist and a former CDC staffer.
