Such fun discussions today at the Natural History Museum (London) on ‘named historical animals’ & my AHRC-funded M4C placement w/ Nottingham Museums/Uni of Nottingham (with Dr Holly Miller), in which I’ll be researching & decolonising the C19th history of George the Gorilla.

as a german linguistics debutante (if you will), feels somewhat fitting in this #ShoutOutForGerman week that i introduced some preliminary research from my phd at our @uniofnottingham.bsky.social modern languages department research seminar today, wonderfully chaired by @k8ybirch.bsky.social 😇🇦🇹🏔️🗣️

I love this!! When in Austria, a colleague of mine gifted me a pig 🐷 charm (pictured here with my actual piggies!) as a symbol of good luck (“Schwein haben” (?)) around the holiday season/new years and I always thought it was unique (& not something I’d heard before!) - is it the same in Germany?
