i have no overall love for sxsw but i feel for that. on the other hand i do feel glee over the fact that mediocre middle aged agents and distro execs who have been coasting in this industry can’t like, party for free and try to have affairs tho 🫢

last i heard from a venue worker in Austin that whole industry made a large portion of their yearly salaries from southby. the pain in the ass was worth the money in their eyes.

heard for sure, i just can’t help but be overall frustrated by what i feel like is a reliance on social media-generated activism. like… that leaves out such huge swaths of folks that need to be engaged. just like really any marketing or message-spreading.

maybe one day i’ll put out my next screed on the sloppy symbiotic relationship of opera, philanthropy, and legacy press and how the ~art form~ is actually just a massive churning comms and fundraising machine with a meager icing of shows on top 🙃
