For #WorldPolioDay, @asm.org named the University of Pittsburgh a Milestones in Microbiology site to honor Dr. Jonas Salk for developing the world’s first polio vaccine. After use in the early 1950s, it reduced paralytic polio in the U.S. by 96% in only a few years.

Dr. Fauci gave an inspiring lecture and Q&A last night in Pittsburgh. I’m appreciative of his 50+ years of medical and public health service for the US and the world.

Watching Sarah McLachlan’s documentary reminded me that I used to be cool. I was at the first Lilith Fair concert on July 5, 1997 at the Gorge at George, WA. Girl power!

I have written my reps a lot in 2025! This is the first direct response from Sen. Fetterman regarding my concerns about science funding. "I remain committed to advocating for the policies, funding, and infrastructure necessary to sustain America's leadership in scientific research and innovation."

So sorry I had to miss this due to study section and a comps exam! But I hope @aleciarokes.bsky.social and @vscooper.micropopbio.org liked my little surprise that I left last night in the seminar room. 🤭

A wonderful talk by @shanluliu.bsky.social at #ASV2025 about viral cell-cell transmission. Thank you for the shout out to our deltaE SARS-CoV-2 preprint!

I would like to thank Oliver Fregoso for sharing his beautiful data in his state of the art talk at #ASV2025. And importantly sharing his journey to becoming a PI, including support from NIH MARC, NIH IMSD and Hutch United. All of these programs are now gone. Hoping we can keep diversity in science

Unfortunately my postdoc did not feel comfortable traveling outside of the country for #ASV2025 (or rather was worried about getting back into the U.S.), so I will be presenting her work on Thursday in Montreal. Please stop by! #LoveVirology
