It can definitely be fun! The most viable avenue to pursue would be to go indie, but even then, it's hard to get into that unless you're starting up your own group. The great thing with programming is that it's really easy to just learn on your own though; you don't need a degree to do it.

Well, the games industry has been an absolute disaster for many years. I went to school for game design myself, and most of my colleagues are working in other fields now.
