A future treaty should exclude children accused of crimes against humanity from being prosecuted in the ADULT criminal justice. Those exercising command of these children should be primarily responsible. Any kids' cases should be handled ONLY within a dedicated child justice system.

Children have a right to be heard. A future Crimes Against Humanity Convention should also make it clear that children can be victims and witnesses, and must have access to court proceedings and reparations in ways that are tailored to their age.

The new crimes against humanity treaty should:
1. Say that a child is everyone under age 18
2. Add 2 crimes: forced marriage + the recruitment and use of children
3. Specify "age" as a ground for persecution

Kids are victims of every act understood as a crime against humanity: murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation/forcible transfer, imprisonment, torture, sexual violence (rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization), enforced disappearance, apartheid.

The world is moving towards an international treaty on crimes against humanity. A huge opportunity to enhance justice for children - governments should consider kids now. We have some ideas in a new paper released today: cahtreatynow.org/justice-for-... @hrw.org @veroaubert.bsky.social

The Trump admin just froze federal funding for organizations providing crucial health services like cervical cancer screenings & family planning to low-income people. This puts millions of girls and women at risk and undermines access to essential care. @hrw #ReproRights

President Trump’s pick for the Labor Department, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, will soon oversee the government’s response to labor rights across the US. One of her key priorities should be taking action to end hazardous child labor. www.hrw.org/news/2025/03... @hrw.org

“We are done talking….We now want to see action”--18-year-old Natalie Chilikwela, whose hometown of Kabwe, Zambia, is severely lead-polluted. New mining of toxic lead waste is making matters worse. The government should act. New @hrw.org report:
