Not sure what courier you use, but USPS normally hands off to Canada Post, so you typically any avoid fees if you declare the value as less than $60CAD. If you go with UPS/FedEx, you can prepay the taxes when you send the parcel to avoid the brokerage fee (shops like B&H and Mouser do it like this).

In Canada, these “brokerage fees” have been a thing for years. Most couriers (except for Canada Post) will also charge you more in fees if your package has less taxable value. I once paid $30 in additional fees for a parcel with an $8 import duty.

Not a specific person but there was this student band at my school that played a show in the cafeteria where they doused a half-naked (consenting) woman in pig’s blood, then went around claiming it was all satire when it blew up and started getting covered by the national news.
