Send some of the yarn when you give handmade gifts! Why? Because the hardest part of repairing damaged knit and crochet items is finding matching yarn!
I'm repairing this family heirloom blanket and this is the best yarn match I could find.
Repair in progress of dog-chewed piece of old crochet. The original blanket is a rusty brown and white shell-stitch pattern. The repair is in a darker brown. There are orange and gold locking stitch markers holding some pieces to keep them from unraveling further.

Hey whassup y'all! Today's #knitting tip is definitely a Hot Take! I have a deep aversion to unnecessarily bulky seams, so I only use mattress stitch on things that are not garments.
Mattress Stitch Kinda Sucks. Mattress stitch is WILDLY overused for seaming knits! Sure, it looks nice, but it makes seams that are bulky and stiff and uncomfortable to wear. It should ONLY be used for joining stockinette stitch, and even then I usually avoid it on garments because bulky seams are a sensory ick. Do a whip stitch instead! Butt the edges right side up and whip stitch. On knitted garter or seed stitch, whip stitch is nearly invisible. On stockinette, it's visible, yes, but looks quite tidy and pleasant. Whip stitch also works beautifully on crochet, especially when seaming motifs!

You only get ONE chance at this – every time you finger the inside of the ball, it will get more tangled, and the yarn barf will get bigger. If you have a virgin skein/ball, your yarn barf will be minimal.
Center-pull Yarn Fishin' 1. Stick a finger in each of the "belly buttons" of your skein/ball until they're touching. 2. Wiggle them to get some yarn in-between (if there isn't some there already). 3. With your fave thumb, reach in, grab the yarn from between your fingies, and pull that yarn out - it's PROBABLY a loop, so pull the entire loop! 4. Keep pulling both strands of the loop until it pops and there's only ONE strand connecting the "yarn barf" to the skein/ball. 5. Unwind the barf and there's the end! 6. If there's a LOT of yarn barf, wind it up, open the belly button it came from, and stick it back in.

Okay, so I'm actually stabbed at the medication is running into my lovely fat belleh. So glad to have extra cushion for the (medication) pushin.

The book is Paper & Blood by @kevinhearne.bsky.social. I am at least a decade younger than MacBhairrais, but I feel a decade or two older.

There's a scrubber and a bit of shower curtain folded away on the right, a cheese grater style foot file and a bottle of Every Man Jack amber & sandalwood washing stuff of husband's on the left. A Kindle book being held in the right hand, reading 7:05 pm chapter 8 The Case of the Abandoned Cheese, followed by book text. I'm on page 92 and 35% of the way through the book. I bought a too-big sweatshirt from @stabros.bsky.social (stabs.studio) and it's awesome. Super soft, beautiful color, cozy AF.

I got it to sleep in, but it's so pretty I have been wearing it out in the world and got so many compliments!

Thank you! It was a labor of love, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Barbara Walker's Learn-to-Knit Afghan Book. It's all 63 squares in the book, knit Continental style, just as she taught.

Y'all! I figured out how to do a PURL version of the Veil Stitch from #BarbaraWalkerTreasury1

The border in the photos below is the original all-knit Veil Stitch. The rest is Veil Stockinette, knit on one side and purled on the other.

I'm trying to finish the 🎲 design 🤶 stocking for my DM daughter...

While we're at it, what was the last completely normal thing that your brain mistook for a terrifying monster when you saw it in the light of your cell phone screen at 3 am?

Mine was the sweatshirt I keep ready in case I am too cold and blankets feel suffocating.
