When do they think humans are in their prime in their warped view of aging and politics? The current president isn't in his prime. I won't body shame or explore his obvious "mental fatigue," but I will say no 79-year-old human in his shape is equipped to do that job. Or really MOST jobs. 3/4

And honestly I'd love to interview Ernest about some of the decisions made in these books. Some of this is just nostalgia porn for people my age, but some of the story elements that make these books so good is nested in standing up for the least of us and valuing human life at every social strata.

A drunk behind the wheel is out of control. This feels predatory and malicious. What we are experiencing was planned in detail. This was the real plan all along and they're doing it on purpose. An alcoholic makes bad choices but they're inhibited by the alcohol. We're experiencing pure evil.

Good books coming out is not something to apologize for. Americans need good distractions from the dismantling of our democracy. We can only watch so much of that shit before we need something else worthwhile in our lives.
