Try it for a while, see how your results are! There’s definitely a time and a place for all of these— but people need to stop letting them off the hook for good intentions. It’s seductive, but would you tell a guy who burned down your house to exterminate termites you knew his intentions were good?

What does empathy and kindness towards that person look like? I think you’re right that it’s needed.

Mine has been kindness and empathy, and civil conversation til this last week. I think both of these approaches need some work. For instance: I don’t think they’re dumb. Their interest is destroying the govt. They voted for what they wanted.

Look— I do feel for her—and: she knew what she was doing. She just miscalculated that she’d be one of the ones important enough to be saved. We need to stop giving people free passes because they are suffering. This is typical, hateful MAGA.

My suggestion? Start believing that they know what they’re doing. Treat them as if they know, because a lot of them do, and only go into the tears and the “I didn’t knows” when it goes bad for them . If she’d gotten her raise and we still sent people to camps, she’d be happy.

If you look at the long game of politics in the US, liberals have always taken that stance: show them empathy. We still ended up here. We need something other than empathy.
