Trees can do a lot for Denverites, but I found disparities in where they're planted. I dug into five years of data for The Local Colorado. A third of new tress went to low canopy areas.

I am ecstatic to share that I have received a seed grant from the Fund for Investigative Journalism to pursue an investigative project digging into first responders in Colorado.

I am grateful to be able put my time towards this necessary story. Let's get to work!

Learning to take care of my mental health after going through Trauma in the field was a lot like riding a bucking raptor - weird but I eventually figured it out

I really hope you come to our session on managing stress, #IRE25.

We’re going to share actionable tips and you can see my sick socks 🦖🕵🏻‍♂️

The state of the world has felt overwhelming, but the bountiful wildflowers popping up near Colorado trails across the state have brought me so much joy 🥹

I think most journalists are struggling with how to deal with all of **this** going on right now. I'm hopeful that we may be able to help you

Our @ire.org panel will give you time-tested tools on how to take care of yourself and ways that our industry can build systems to better support their teams
June 9, 2025 at 8:02 PM
I am stoked to reconnect with friends and do some teaching at @ire.org in a few weeks 🕵️

I'll be on a mental health panel and will be leading a session on how to find the story in transportation data.

Who will I see there?!

A dark but incredibly useful giveaway at the #CollaborativeJournalism Conference is a temporary tattoo with the @rcfp.org hotline number to wear at protests

Wow. ICE used an undocumented immigrant's granddaughter as bait to get her out of her home to arrest her.

A Colorado state agency tried to make me pay for a records request via check until I reminded them that was against the law.

Know your records laws, kids! And submitting requests through a portal and not just an email seems to speed it up too.

AI can be a great tool when used responsibly. I scraped data from this old Census document to create this map. It ran with @theconversation.com piece that I edited.

Detroit's Black population surged 611% from 1910 to 1920, prompting a mecca for Black businesses.

Two judicial districts had the sharpest dips in prosecuting new DUI cases, more than 50%, in Denver’s 2nd Judicial District and Arapahoe County’s 18th Judicial District.

Spokesmen for the DA's said they are "committed" to pursuing charges in cases brought to them by law enforcement. 6/

The declining enforcement happened statewide, but was pronounced in a few police departments/sheriffs offices & judicial districts.

DUI arrests declined by at least 50% at more than a dozen agencies. Representatives at Denver Police & the Adams County Sheriffs Office blamed staffing problems.

Howard Small, the father of a DUI crash victim, said this is "completely unacceptable."

A drunk & high driver killed Ethan Small in 2019 after Ethan dropped off his Lyft passengers.

Howard said he misses Ethan's kind spirit and running together. They loved running the Bolder Boulder. 3/

My analysis found Colorado law enforcement officers made 32% fewer arrests and prosecutors pursued 34% fewer charges from 2013 to 2023.

MORE people are dying from impaired driving accidents in Colorado but authorities statewide are pursuing LESS drunk driving cases than they were than 10 years ago.

I dug into the for the @denvergazette.com and I'd love to share what I've learned. 1/

💻 White collar jobs usually allowed at least some telework. Managers have also embraced remote work, with nearly 40% leading their teams from home at least some of the time.
February 4, 2025 at 8:48 PM
I took a look at who was able to work remotely in 2024 for Stacker.

✏️ My analysis found some disparities in who could utilize the flexibility. Black and Hispanic/Latino men were way less likely to report working remotely.
