But Bolsonaro was highly constrained by PR. He had trouble getting his most authoritarian legislative agenda through the Centrao, despite their alliance of convenience, and his lack of control over the legislature made it hard for him to use executive dictates/get around a hostile Supreme Court

The final reason is antisemitism. Influencers like Candace Owens are promoting antisemitic conspiracies about Jews and Israel and those ideas are gaining traction with young conservatives.

@zackbeauchamp.bsky.social had a great write-up on this over on Vox.

If Carlson and the groypers win, Christian Zionists and right-wing Jews no longer have a home in the GOP. The latter factions know this, and they will do everything in their power to purge the former.

They still might lose, btw. But they will fight this one to the death.

The part about Tucker being a bad friend was so telling in that regard

Roberts cannot say that Fuentes' views are so dangerous that they "risk violence" and oppose any effort to push him out of the coalition ("cancellation, in Roberts' terminology). He has to pick one.

This is so obviously insincere, in such flagrant contradiction with what he said yesterday, that you have to assume Heritage's PR team wrote it for him
