We CAN give birth to new institutions, better institutions because all institutions must have a beginning.

So, if one wants to think in a revolutionary way, always remember the inherent mortality of whatever the object of your thought it.

These ways of thinking and of enforcing thought on each other can end, by changing and becoming anew. If institutions are inherently mortal, we must understand this in the fullest sense, in its true richness.

and, importantly, so too can the technologies of U.S. immigration policy, or the ways we create the subject of the “immigrant”, the narratives surrounding this person referred to as an “alien”, or the nationalist “other”.

It also recognizes that ICE, as the physical infrastructure of U.S. immigration policy, can end;

For instance, #AbolishICE is a revolutionary thought. It recognizes that ICE itself was created in 2003; and even though U.S. immigration law has a long history, it is, nevertheless, contingent and has changed throughout its life.

From the mandates of Heaven, to the Divine rights of kings, the cult of personalities propping up dictators, to republics, and democracies, all are fundamentally mortal no matter what tales they tell.

Regardless of the length and/or strength of an institution, it is necessarily the case that it is NOT necessary, i.e., that it is contingent.

When we are thinking in a revolutionary way we do so with the understanding that all institutions are necessarily mortal. They have a beginning, and they will have an end.

We are asking this question philosophically, so the object of our questioning is thought itself. We want to know the presuppositions that are always already the ground from which revolutionary thinking emerges.
