hey!
He/Him
I'm slightly for the change mostly on the premise that I think it would be neat, and I feel that it's a decent enough reason, but ultimately if I had the final say, given the amount of reaction to the topic I would opt not to change the rule.

Sorry for the tangent D:

It does at least attempt to do so, and it's in that intention that I derive at least some of the enjoyment. I think hybrid as a concept is worth discussion only because that intention doesn't go against the intentions of color identity. It's not a reason to immediately make a change though.

It's not a particularly strong logical argument to make the change outright, but I do think that part of the reason *I* enjoy color identity is that, while it doesn't always succeed in creating a restriction of what my naya deck can do (Chaos warp and beast within as an example)

I don't feel too strongly about hybrid one way or another (slightly for, if I'm being honest), but this video got me thinking which is always good :D

I guess one thought that has been stewing that I've been trying to put into words is the argument about intention

When it comes to confusion and resulting feelings, telling players "your deck isn't legal unless your remove X" is always going to feel worse than saying "You aren't running this card, but you could if you want to"

I've been teaching players how to play edh/commander since like 2010, and in my experience I've seen players be confused, I've had to tell people that technically their deck is illegal because they have a Kitchen Finks in their Atalya deck (mono white).

People who only care about doing the busted thing will always just continue doing the busted thing though. Telling players who are more creative in deckbuilding "Sorry, you can't have this because the local Urza/Ur-Dragon/Edgar player said he was going to put Rhys in his Lathril deck" just feels off

I think Tymna is a stronger overall card than Rograkh 1:1, but I think rograkh has more of an effect on deckbuilding, such as a cedh deck running only 5-6 creatures being able to run cards like Mox Amber, Diabolic Intent, Culling the Weak, and even Infernal Plunge.

Charlie Kirk spent his entire life advocating to remove choices (admittedly that's putting it mildly) from marginalized groups, so I suppose it's quite fitting that in his death people are demanding empathy rather than allowing people to choose it for themselves.

Love the big Dong

This *is* a boring way to do it for sure, but im glad to see a 5 color commander that pushes combat rather than infinite value.

Tidus is the first precon ive kept together with no intent to change for nostalgia reasons, but in addition to that I've had a blast playing it.

I definitely think this precon (really anything to do with +1/+1 counters) can become exhausting over time, or to newer players for sure.

I dont like that person's comment at all. I think the unscripted/off the cuff nature of the podcast is a positive and I think you three are a positive asset to the magic community as is.

wotc is normalizing combo across more of the playerbase and I'm here for it

I really enjoy your videos talking about how you build certain commanders the most. You have an interesting approach to deckbuilding and just about every time I come away with learning some new synergy or rethinking my approach to my own decks. Good stuff.

While that situation sucks (I had a similar experience for 3-4 years), From first hand experience- sometimes it is absolutely better to not play any magic at all than play in some pods, and while rule 0 isn't going to solve your problem here, I don't think it's actively making your situation worse.
April 26, 2025 at 4:21 AM
It depends on how much you value playing magic, even if the experience is miserable. With rule 0, you can hopefully assess whether or not that pod is worth it to you despite your lack of choice.

I definitely agree with Teferi's being on the GC list. I would've liked Farewell to have been added too since roughly 20% of the answers in white to it just got made a game changer. (probably hyperbole but still)

I like this in just about any go wide blue deck, the additional upside here feels like even more of a shoe-in.

A funny thing about the bracket system, is that there are a few people at my lgs that aren't fans of the system, and say things like "I have this weak commander with x,y,z strong cards so the system doesn't work", but without the system we wouldn't have had a talk at all, so it's doing some good 😅

It also doesn't account for good/better deckbuilding. Playing in 2 pods where people opt to play only 32 lands and 0 removal spells doesn't magically bump my 2 up to a 3 because I play a deck with 38 lands and 10~ removal spells.
