Here is an email I sent to my university office of postdoctoral affairs if this is useful for anybody.
Hello, I appreciate everything you do for us. We are, however, in a moment of tremendous uncertainty and anxiety. Rather than webinars and professional development workshops (which are very important, and I have certainly benefited from in the past), I would like to see OPA telling us what the university plans to do to protect our jobs, our salaries, and our research during this unprecedented funding freeze. As you will no doubt have seen by now, the NSF is arbitrarily withholding all stipend payments, which will enormously jeopardize both individual postdoc livelihoods as well as the university's ability to continue being a research leader. Thankfully, I am lucky enough to have NIH funding, which has not (yet) been impacted in this way. I would feel much better if I knew UNC had a plan to keep paying me even if something similar starts happening at NIH. I am sure I am one among many in having these concerns. Would you please convey them to the administration and let us know as soon as possible what we can expect in terms of paycheck protection?
