There's three American Football albums, titled 1, 2, and 3, respectively. I prefer the live show where they play the newer stuff, but lately it's been mostly LP1. That's really all you need to know about American Football.

He picked it up, rolled it, picked it up again. If that's not an offense, fine, but I've watched a lot of terrible American high school and it's a free kick every time here

Can confirm it works: it's called summer vacation

Oh so it's YOUR fault. Can't be The Ricketts.

Most high school students now receive 40 or even 50% credit for assignments they have not attempted.

Yes! Remember the days when my grandfathers returned from WW2 to fight not in bars or on street corners but in the letters to the editor section of the local rag.

In my two decades at a suburban school with plenty of $:
1 NFL (long snapper), 0 NBA, 0 NHL, 0 NWSL, 0 WNBA, 2 MLB (if you count AAA, that goes up to 5), 1 male pro soccer player (but he had to go to Europe for high school so...0). A couple of high level softball kids went D1 and actually played.

22 years of working with teenagers and their parents tells me that this show would be unbelievably compelling and would make absolutely no difference in the delusion of its subjects.

I've said this elsewhere (YouTube comments), but the highest possible praise I can lay at the feet of a songwriter is that their lyrics always surprise me. This applies here to the nth degree.

I'll use the audiobook because I'm not reading for 45 minutes five times a day 😫

Different educators will blame different segments of the system for this problem. Somehow they are all usually mostly right. Elementary schools have abandoned certain practices that were beneficial to kids and college professors have also abdicated their responsibilities to conform to tenure reqs

Great points. I would argue that the responsibility for the death of the novel in the English classroom lies at the feet of every college professor who centers literary theory over the actual literature. They have created a generation of English teachers who haven't read all that much.

OH MY GOD THEY WILL COMPLAIN SO MUCH was all I heard from colleagues. Not a peep from any of them. Multiple studies show that hand writing leads to retention. Word processing without the internet is necessary for many people. No one needs constant access to everything to write.

Most high school kids are assigned MULTIPLE novels in their four years of high school. Rural, suburban, and urban. That article is correct, though, when it points out that almost none of them actually READ the books.

I'm a high school teacher. I solved the AI problem with a simple fix: my students write their in-class essays and classroom assignments by hand. If they're not able or have terrible handwriting that I can't read (very rare), they can type on a disconnected laptop. Bring back the physical blue book.

Huge Liverpool fan here to second this. Leicester is the only #1 and no CheatingEra City teams belong

there are way too many books and authors to spend more than a few keystrokes trying to convince anyone to read Oscar Wao, but it's quite easily one of the twenty best novels of the 21st century. Construction, execution, prose, style: all perfect. Maybe he's a sus person; I've got no direct intel
