Following on from my previous post, I believe that ‘Wesley’s Theory’ is one of the greatest songs ever made, describing the exploitation of black artists by institutions upheld by white supremacy. Even if you do not like conscientious hiphop, everyone should give ‘To pimp a butterfly’ a listen.

Kendrick Lamar is truly one of the greatest musical artists of all time. In 75 songs he has perfectly encapsulated his life, with analysis of his upbringing as an African American man in Compton, the systematic oppression imposed by the US government and his own journey in therapy.

The Peacemaker finale was not a disappointment. It subverted expectations by not following the norms of comic book media. Instead of a ‘final battle’, we received a heartfelt conclusion to the characters arcs. Once again proving how John Cena is an actor, not a wrestler turned actor.

The comic book industry is not dying, it just needed something different. Retconning the universe every 30 years to then rinse and repeat storylines will perform badly but when you create something new and interesting then the money rolls in. The Absolute line of comics at DC are proof of this.

The Batgirl movie being written off for tax purposes shows how little faith WB had in their IPs to perform well at the box office. This bad faith only driven by the responses to their previous works, that were mediocre due to studio interference. James Gunn shows how good movies perform well.

I’m glad that the general consensus around the new superman movie is that the relationship between one’s own country and two others in the middle of a geopolitical conflict is not worth the death of civilians to maintain, specifically with the aggressor. If only this were a reality.
