So craven. Trump slates BofA for supposedly refusing to bank conservatives. Moynihan responds by saying thank you so much for winning the World Cup for America, we look forward to sponsoring it!

Can the public's rage over our broken health care system, which boiled over in response to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealth Group executive Brian Thompson, be channeled into anything productive? Some thoughts on this week's events. (gift link):
The Health Insurance Industry Is Broken. Don’t Let It Break Us.
The ghoulish reaction to the slaying of UnitedHealth's Brian Thompson reflects frustration over a failed and unfair system.

Trump’s choice for the SEC could signal the end of an era in regulation that began with the dot-com bust of 2000 and the scandals that followed. He would do well in returning us to the less ambitious but more constructive SEC of the 1990s. -- Aaron Brown

SEC's Next Top Cop Will Take Us Back to the 1990s
Trump's pick to run the regulator will displease some MAGA supporters and Democrats, but that’s not a bad thing for markets.

Markets are clearly worried about the return of unwanted inflation. What would that look like? Would consumers bear the brunt of it? #BloombergOpinion Nir Kaissar argues that McDonald's new value menu tells you why companies should fear Trumpflation.

McDonald’s Inflation Tug of War Should Worry More Companies
Consumers won’t be the only ones feeling the pain if price pressures are reignited under Trump.

Who likes property taxes? Certainly not homeowners, but for those on the outside, raising property taxes could force the structural shift that the housing market needs, lowering the price point for young families.

To Get the Housing Market Moving, Raise Property Taxes
A recent paper compares California and Texas to suggest a novel approach to improving homeownership for young families. It’s an idea that can't be ignored.

Aaron Brown is a self-declared cryptophile, so his analogy between Bitcoin euphoria and Netscape’s glory days is telling. He writes that it’s important to separate things that are good for Bitcoin from things that are good for crypto but possibly bad for Bitcoin.

Trump May Be Good for Crypto — But Bad for Bitcoin
Trump’s win and Republican Senate gains are bullish for the industry, but not necessarily for the long-term value of the most famous digital currency.

One fascinating aspect of the Trump agenda is how it could end up being self-limiting. So much in there that could get inflation going again, forcing the Fed to change course and taking Treasury yields and mortgage rates (even) higher.
