Rolled credits on Outer Worlds 2. Some neat mechanics (flaws are a standout) but skill points are too sparse. Definitely won't play again without modding/console commands to give one or two more per level.

Also Skies of Arcadia (starting to see the infamously high encounter rate) and more Ver1 PSO.

That's tragic. I'm so sorry for your loss and hope some solace finds you soon.

It's very much the kinda game that expects you to be ride-or-die with 2 or 3 skills and just accept that there's a lot that you won't be able to do in any given playthrough. Feels like it's overcorrecting for the "master of all" approach you could take in some Fallouts.

Just started playing this (well, the Legends release but close enough) for the first time recently. Been a treat so far.

On the fence about the Machine itself, but I absolutely would day-one purchase a wood-paneled controller.

I half wonder if there's some "revolutionary" new feature they want to cram into a Deck 2 that just isn't economically viable to put into that kinda form factor yet. I know they've been on the VR boondoggle for a while, but I dunno how that'd fit in a portable. AR maybe? Outhouse? Hopefully not A.I.

You don't need the new Steam Machine. Your PC is just fine. You are happy with it. You are content. You want to share that feeling of contentment. You want to buy me the new Steam Machine...

I could see it making some sense for someone who really got caught on the back foot when Windows 10 support ended. But how big of a market that actually is and how relevant it'll still be by the time the console finally drops... that's a massive question mark at best.

Mostly Outer Worlds 2 alongside the Missus. Stronger game mechanically than the first, but not as charming imo.

Specced into explosives, lockpick, and sneak. Mine-filled no-man's-lands on the first 2 planets keeping me well-supplied, but sadly no Fallout-style reverse-pickpocket tomfoolery allowed.

Hectic past couple weeks. Father-in-law was in the hospital w/pneumonia, but as he was getting better something else showed up in his chest x-rays. Clots? Cancer? Tar? Malignant? Benign? Won't have an answer until the week after next.

Been trying to stay helpful and keep spirits up in the meantime.

Black Lagoon might scratch that itch for you.

Better than last week. Incoming audit at work. Still TBD when. Co-workers on edge. W/e happens happens.

Found a used Wii for decent price. Gonna homebrew it for retro emulation. Native 240p on a CRT should look nice.

Get stuff done Saturday, relax Sunday is the weekend plan.

Have a good one, all!

The problem (or at least my problem) with the suit is that it's over patents for gameplay mechanics - not stolen assets.

If Nintendo/TPC want their pound of flesh from Pocketpair, I'm fine with letting them have it. But please let it be for something they're actually owed.
October 24, 2025 at 10:10 PM
I'm with you, broadly speaking, but the "how" of it all still bugs me. Nintendo going after Palworld with a patent suit specifically worries me - especially when I can't help but feel (probably naively) that they could absolutely smoke Pocketpair if they upped their game and actually competed.
October 24, 2025 at 9:22 PM
So the agreement to form Palworld Entertainment was between Pocketpair and two of Sony's non-gaming subsidiaries: Sony Music Entertainment and Aniplex. It's not a game publishing deal or acquisition, but will apparently handle non-gaming Palworld media similar to how TPC currently does for Pokemon.
October 24, 2025 at 8:54 PM
None of those franchises got into bed with Sony to form Totally-Not-the-Pokemon-Company either, though. Pocketpair did, and a couple months after that is when Nintendo/TPC hit them with the patent infringement suit.

The asset theft is totally scummy, but I don't think it was the suit's main driver.
October 24, 2025 at 7:34 PM
It absolutely is, but that doesn't make Nintendo/TPC's response to it any better. If slop like Palworld is even vaguely threatening the single biggest media franchise on the planet, that should prompt some serious self-reflection on the big N's part, not lawsuits.

Or at least not *just* lawsuits.

Why make anything else when they can just sue any competition they deem "too uppity" into the ground?

Beat *that* series of fights in FFT:TIC. Took Wiegraf down w/classic Tailwind/Chant strats. The next fight ended on my dual-wielding monk's first turn after he decked one of the assassin ladies so hard the boss ended the fight then and there.

Also more PSO and Tales of Graces f co-op w/the Missus.
