He did, yes. Zeke was having recurring dreams for 2 years, where he and his brother always died. He tried to manipulate these dreams to find out if there was any way out/"loophole", and started recording the videos both to document his progress and to leave something to Dan in case it went wrong. 🫤

Context: from one the videos Ezekiel recorded for Dan. He was shooting them over several months, so they tend to meander at times, along with his mood and memories.
Every time I remember those times, I can’t help but feel sick. I’ll never forget in which state I found you. Burning from the inside, still clutching at your camera and at that bag with all the rolls of photographs you had taken, the story you wanted to tell so badly, even though you were contemplating, maybe, just maybe, letting go at last. Because I know, Ardán, I know who your real audience is. Deep inside, you only want to show this beauty to one person. To me. If I’m not here, this world has no worth to you, just like it has no value to me without you in it. At least I got to understand this in time. So, I beg you. Don’t go walk in the Red Forest again. I’m doing everything I can here to find the loophole, to help you keep exploiting it when I can no longer do it. To give you hope, and keep that hope blazing for as long as possible.

Neither Dan nor Zandra cared about this, but they also didn’t care about smothering such reflexes and instincts born from centuries of survival. That didn’t matter either. Nothing did, save for her velvet taste on his tongue, for her nails raking his back as she abandoned herself to his embrace, drawing new scars that wouldn’t last this time, were no match against his body’s ability to revert back to the time of his death. And when she decided he had taken enough, flung herself away in a spray of fresh blood, and grabbed his throat instead to the point of bruising; when her lips alighted just under his jawline and her own fangs pierced his skin without a warning; he let her, the stars of her enchanting blood still exploding behind his closed eyelids like the last coloured showers of a dying firework, heaven and hell now rolled all together. The fresh wound hurt like a sacrament, and his veins sang a chorus of sublime agony alight with ecstasy. There he sat, his turn now to claw into her arms and shoulders, embracing the other half of their shared rapture, the giving rather than the taking, the elation and the relief and more of the rush and roar that hopefully would keep the weight of the world away for a little longer, just a little longer, not much, he wasn’t asking for that much, he wasn’t being greedy, now, was he? Just a few more minutes, so that he wouldn’t have to think anymore, so that he could stop caring about the constant turmoil in his thoughts, about the absence of that smile and of that voice and of those deep blue eyes and—

Sort of?
The origin of this specific lineage goes back to the spiritual concept of "the Shadow"; having embraced it, they're thus "shadows to the world", so the world doesn't reflect them. (They do have a physical existence/presence. This is more on a conceptual/metaphysical level.)

Most do, only Sceadu vampires (like Dan) don't. There are several "vampire lineages", so to speak, each of them with their specific traits, and this is one of those. (And yes, the fact that the one guy in town who doesn't show up on photos, IS also a photographer, is totally on purpose. 😉)

Context: Dan and Zandra after a photo shoot (and some more lore about the vampires in my world).
Zandra turned to the large bay-window opening onto the long balcony—to her reflection on the darkened pane, and to the gaping void next to it, where Dan’s should have stood. He followed her gaze, didn’t need to say anything, didn’t need to ask what had attracted her attention, once again. The irony of it all, really. From the moment he had laid his hands on one of Daguerre’s first devices, the violent burst of passion that erupted in him absolutely took him by surprise; yet he would always remain the one subject never showing in his own pictures. In anyone’s pictures. ‘Wait, that’s a good pose. Let’s do that again.’ She still held his hand loosely, fingertips brushing against each other, and looking at it more closely, he could already see a new story unfold: a leaving of sorts, half completed only, tinged with regret and hesitation. Granted, the idea would last until her reflection started acting up, something that may or may not happen, depending on her mood. Here, too, lay another piece of irony: a Sceadu and a Peili, a shadow without a reflection and a reflection without a shadow, working together.

The "hidden thing" is not hidden from the reader. It's just all the crap Dan has had to contend with before that moment, it's just that now Zandra is like "OK I'm fed up with the Tough Silent Man act, you're not fooling anyone" 🥲

Context: this is after Dan freaked out about keeping a human child with him, and left Magda with Talia and her mage friends. When he came home, he and Zandra shared an intimate moment, and then...
Zandra licked the blood on her lips, a shiver running down her whole body as she rode the last fading threads of euphoria, all the while staring back. Such fascinating eyes, she had. At least they betrayed more concern than anger rigth now, so perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad. ‘Come on, sweetheart,’ she went on. ‘I love myself a man who can shut up, but this time, I’d very much prefer you talk. You must tell me what’s wrong.’ ‘There’s nothing—’ ‘No. You haven’t been yourself in weeks. Pretty sure others have started to get a whiff of it, too. And I can tell. I can taste it. You taste all wrong. So don’t give me that nothing crap. Just—just speak, for Devil’s sake!’ She wrapped her fingers around his wrists, forcing both their hands together, a simulacrum of prayer, a silent pleading. Speak. Speak. Speak.

Oh yes, looking for friends, even on platforms that claim they're geared towards finding friends and not just romance... is pretty much always doomed to fail.

I absolute hate every single time I start getting friends with a guy, but it gets ruined because he's looking for something else... 😔

Come to think of it, the secondary villain was a corrupted druid called the Lord of Thorns, with thorn tattoos all over a side of his face. That was cool, too. I should draw that... someday.
