I also co-founded the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute, which “opposes the racism embedded in Canadian foreign policy”. The NDP should allow this internationalist and anti-racist lens into the leadership race.

I believe all this adds up to the NDP having a significant racism problem that needs to be addressed. I have written and spoken extensively about Canada’s role in Haiti, Africa, Venezuela, Palestine and elsewhere.

While less racist in their tone today, NDP MPs have employed the word “antisemitism” in discussing Palestine related matters more than the term “Jewish supremacy” during two years of genocide to advance Jewish supremacy.

“A regime of Jewish Supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This Is Apartheid.” In a gross devaluing of Palestinian life, Jewish Canadian sensitivities have repeatedly been mobilized to justify apartheid and the slaughter of Palestinians.

The NDP has backed Canada’s participation in what’s been labelled a “race-based spy network”.
In a more egregiously racist policy, Canada has long enabled what a 2021 landmark B’Tselem report described as

Largely focused on another part of the world, Canada is part of the Five Eyes, which oozes white supremacy. Settler colonialism and empire unite an alliance that excludes wealthier non-white nations (Japan and South Korea) or those with more English speakers (India and Nigeria).

One observer of the party’s 2011 convention reported former Ontario NDP leader Stephen Lewis justified “the murderous NATO bombing of Libya, purportedly as an antidote to alleged mass rapes attributed to forces of the Ghadaffi regime.”
November 20, 2025 at 11:21 PM
Unfortunately, the NDP voted to back a NATO war overseen by a Canadian general, which was justified with outlandish and racist claims that sub-Saharan African mercenaries fuelled by Viagra given by Muamar Gaddafi engaged in mass rape.

Behind the face of Africa looms a dark, evil intelligence, the shadow of Satan, the great enemy of God and man.” A less overt form of racism pervades Canadian policy towards the continent today. In direct opposition to the wishes of the African Union, Canada attacked Libya in 2011.

In 1905 Ontario missionary Alexander Woods Banfield asserted that “people along the banks of the Niger are almost wild… almost entirely untouched by the white man” while in 1948 prolific author Douglas C. Percy argued, “The people of Africa have associations with demonic powers.

McGill and Queen’s were recruited into the British Colonial Service in Africa as “taking Canada into partnership in the white man’s burden.” During this period Canadian missionaries published many tracts full of racist rhetoric.

the Canadians who conquered and governed the continent at the turn of the 19thcentury were often openly racist. In 1923 a top Colonial Office official described a multi-decade long initiative in which graduates of the University of Toronto,

Unfortunately, during the 2021 federal election the NDP explicitly endorsed Canadian participation in the racist Core Group. Like in Haiti today, overt anti-Blackness has long shaped Canadian policy in Africa. As I detail in Canada and Africa: 300 years of Aid and Exploitation,

The Canadian minister who oversaw the meeting, Denis Paradis, justified intervening partly due to fear of (Black) population growth, labeling it “a time bomb which must be stopped immediately!”

Unofficially, the Core Group traces its roots to the 2003 “Ottawa Initiative on Haiti” meeting where US, French, OAS and Canadian officials discussed overthrowing Haiti’s elected government and putting the country under UN trusteeship.
November 20, 2025 at 11:21 PM
Made up of the ambassadors of the US, France, Canada, Brazil, Spain, OAS and EU, the Core Group has heavily shaped Haitian affairs since US, French and Canadian troops overthrew the country’s elected government in 2004 and instigated a UN occupation force.

If one concludes that Canadian foreign policy is fundamentally racist then it probably would be racist to exclude a leading critic of that policy. Canada’s most crassly anti-Black policy today is this country’s role in the Haiti Core Group.

On November 10, I formally submitted to NDP vetting. It’s now up to the three-person vetting committee to decide if party members will be allowed to vote for me in the leadership race. It would undoubtedly be undemocratic for the backroom committee to deny the participation of a
