untitled wolf poem
16 march 2023 (revised this morning)
as moonlight reflects off milk-white fang the sheen of his coat catches the corner of my eye and sets my heart a-flight beating and rapping against its ivory cage and as i feel the sweat bead behind the back of my ear i watch as he catches its acrid scent and his eyes move to meet mine and in an instant we are both frozen gaze locked he pants and i dare not breathe and oh god allow me die here where i stand lest he take me in his fatal jaw— or worse, his arms— crushed or embraced my fluids fleeing my fading corpse only to momentarily satisfy his ravenous hunger and just as my knees begin to shake and just as the desire to careen full-speed into my own demise becomes unbearable the edge of his maw turns up and leads his lips to a smile familiar much like a friend’s from a past life or the one in a darkly-lit mirror and i thaw as the feeling of urgency terror panic dread slowly drains from my stunned body replaced by a calm that moments ago i would have killed to have

tryin’ to write cowboy ballads for some reason
i find myself wantin’ for the things i don’t need and the wantin’ is disturbin’ my peace ‘cause gettin’ what i want makes me want all the more and what i need is the wantin’ to cease meat in a full belly and a mate by my side and the shelter of a den o’er my head should be more than enough to keep this wolf content but i think of what i don’t have instead as if i were locked up inside of a gilded pen toilin’ away for the rest of my days with all that i could want but no time to enjoy i’d be free from this consumin’ malaise all the birds ain’t got shit but the trees and the sky and they sing all the morn anyway well i’m just an old dog with my paws on the ground but i’d like to be like that someday

Stripes begin to form, are always a surprise, you look down and move your head left to right and then the meaning comes. English get worse but not much in your muzzle.
