Last week's RDL was about #gratitude. It was straightforward until I got to the part asking if I was grateful for pain and failures. Naturally, I was not. How could anyone ever be thankful for that? I asked my spiritual director about the line between mindful gratitude and #self-delusion.

One thing I learned from #Arendt is that pluralism is a fact of life. People come from a multitude of perspectives, and this is unavoidable. To believe that we could somehow reach a monolithic view is a delusion. The way forward is to manage these differences without compromising action.

“As he thought about his life, he felt both tears and mockery welling up inside him. All that lay before him was madness or suicide. He walked down the darkening street alone, determined now to wait for the destiny that would come to annihilate him.”

In this podcast, Asst. Prof. Jennifer Hadden talks about the decline of #NGOs today. This is contrasted with their previous roles as purveyors of liberal democracy across the world.

This week I learned about Jephthah’s daughter and the possibility that his father sacrificed her to God.

Grateful that there are scholars in the internet who willingly explain difficult stories like these.

Did Jephthah Actually Kill his Daughter? - TheTorah.com
The story of Jephthah’s daughter is famous as an example of child sacrifice in the Bible, but is that really what the verses mean? The biblical text leaves a number of clues that imply that the Bible ...

Right now, my job is to find myself again because I could not pour from an empty cup. When that happens, I must trust that God will call me to His service again.

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing.”

I’ve always wondered what this meant and stumbled upon this reflection:

Anxious and Worried: The Lessons of Saint Martha
Both of the stories from today’s Gospel selections tell about Saint Martha’s encounters with Christ. The one that really makes me stop and think is the second selection, from Luke. In t…

We know that parties and formations in the #Philippines are based on political expedience and not ideology. So my assessment of Bam and Kiko will depend on their outcomes, not on whether they join the majority or not.

There is a place for grace in politics, especially for our allies.
