I really think they should have dropped the field exploration content sooner than 7.2.
But I am super excited for it!

Lately I started using vanilla glams a lot more cause of this.

My advice would be to just go in without expecting to be blown away, or to hate it.
Try to get immersed in the story as that is a big part of the game, find a chill casual FC if you want to be social in game and enjoy the ride!
There is a LOT in the game for you to play through at this point 😊

There’s multiple reasons for the recent negativity: there was a large amount of wow players that moved to XIV during shadowbringees and the game exploded then.
A lot of these players are running out of content and getting burnout now.
Also the story started a new arc that is pretty divisive.
