When I first started out I played the games untranslated on the Nintendo Switch JP EShop and just read along the story on the archive, but one day the PC version will hopefully have a full translation

Indeed. I'd still fully recommend it nonetheless, I've sunk hundreds of hours into these games, especially the complete box.

Only for the individual games. The complete collection edition of the game only has a fan-made partial menu translation. There's supposedly a full game fan-translation in the works but no one has heard from the team in quite a while. I'd recommend reading the playthrough on LPArchive for the story.
