I’m only a little way into My Crush’s Little Sister and can already see what you mean lol

The love interest is captivating and pathetic in equal spades, as one would hope. Their role reversal dynamic is great. I’m also a sucker the way their emotional relationship develops slowly and organically over the course of their roleplay sessions.

In summary: total dog girl supremacy.

I especially like the way the dominant partner and pov character (that itself is a rarity) has this mix of eldest daughter and empty next syndrome as the little sister she basically raised doesn’t need her any more—she’s so mommy, but in an angsty teenage way. Incredible character writing.

This intersection of personal and professional attraction, envy, longing, loss, etc. is where the work really shines. It's an excellent working woman's series that provides a more mature perspective on the VA industry. Add to that the solid romance and witty comedy and it's a strong recommendation.

...via their new relationship, but instead of personal loss, it's the loss of her career momentum that Kanae is mourning. Continuing in this vein, the focus of the drama in vol 2 is on her working though her jealousy of Kiri, who literally is cast as her replacement for the reboot of her debut work.

As a work of age gap romance, it uses a relatively light touch; the taboo nature of their relationship is mostly only bought up to make Kanae, the older of the pair, the butt of endless jokes. I do appreciate the way they use the trope of the older partner working through loss...

There's also the format of the writing itself: a huge percentage of the novel is transcripts of radio segments which do a great job of making you feel not just like a reader, but a listener. I didn't expect these to be as funny as they were, either. They genuinely make a great comedy duo.

The obvious point of comparison for this series is Voice Actor Radio: On and Off the Air, but this work does a lot to set itself apart beyond just the age gap between the two leads. For starters, they only keep up the bickering for the first few chapters: it becomes very sappy very quickly.
