Pip is a caring and empathetic person. So naturally, she cares for her dad. Especially after everything he went through in Blackrock. Though, she doesn’t want to burden Medkit with her own problems. Believing it’ll add to his stress and that he’d waste his time caring about her. She spends nearly everyday trying to make her dad happy or to get him to smile. If Pip could have one wish, it’d be for Medkit to have a better life in general. And she would do anything to make that happen. She too, believes that Medkit deserves a happy life.

Despite all their flaws and their individual struggles. They try to figure things out together. In the end, they have each other. And that’s all that matters to them.

TLDR: Depressed man finds a little hope in the world after a young girl shows him kindness, inevitably gets attached and adopts her without knowing said young girl is also depressed

It’s also Medkit’s first time being a parent. He’s not amazing at it and he knows it. But he does try his best to take care of Pip. She has a much better chance of having a better life than him, and he wants to make sure that chance doesn’t get ripped away from her. She deserves to be happy, much more than he does.

Medkit isn’t the only one who has issues however. Despite her cheery exterior, Pip has her own set of problems as well. She has a hard time believing people genuinely love her and want her around. She feels like her existence is only useful when it’s for the good of someone else. Her happiness doesn’t matter, if she’s not doing anything useful.

Her childhood and the rest of her lore explains why this is. But that’s a can of worms I’ll be opening for another day. :)

Inevitably, Medkit would find himself getting attached to Pip in a similar manner to Sword. Pip’s bright and cheerful personality gives him a lil bit of hope in the cruel world that is the Inpherno. They get closer and start seeing each other as family.

Medkit doesn’t understand how and why Pip would even consider someone like him as a father figure. Because, what does she see in him? He’s clearly a depressed doctor, runaway criminal who smokes and drinks and can’t pull his shit together. He’s not even anybody important outside of phighting. But still, she gravitated towards him, empathized with him, showed him kindness. What did he ever do, to deserve a daughter like Pip?

The first time they met was purely coincidental. Pip was hanging out with RGB Trio, and having a race with Skateboard. All was well until Pip got burned by her motorcycle’s muffler before they could race again. This prompted RGB trio to call Medkit in hopes that he could help her, since they don’t know anything about first aid. Pip would eventually get her muffler burns healed and she shows up to Medkit’s doorstep again.

Having brought tiramisu as a thank you, Medkit almost didn’t understand the offer. As he had just done the bare minimum, but he (hesitantly) accepted regardless. Then, every other week, Pip would show up to Medkit’s doorstep with tiramisu again. Even when Medkit didn’t order anything. When they cross paths outside of Medkit’s home, Pip would treat him with kindness and even try to make him smile.
