Christian Dior dress and coat on display at the Louvre. The coat was inspired by the Visconti di Modrone Tarot from the 15th century (now held at Yale).
What a thing of beauty.

Details from Notre Dame de Paris’ gate. That sculpted wooden door reminded me of the doors of Durin somehow 😁

Je ne me lasse pas d'admirer la couleur de ces iris commandés hier pour le jardin de mes parents.
C'est mon petit moment zen, histoire de ne pas trop s'énerver en lisant l'actu ce matin...

It is also a marvel to just listen to him talk about his very unique way of working with actors, and improvisation, and how they draw the characters from real life people and what they find interesting in them. He is such an interesting person.

I am looking forward to completing my viewing of all his works. The historical movies : Topsy-Turvy, Mr. Turner, Peterloo. The ones I saw before when they were in theatres : All or Nothing, Vera Drake, Happy-Go-Lucky. And of course his latest one : Hard Truths. +

I have been moved by every one of them. Everything in them is just so real, and they strangely give me some kind of hope. There is something really soothing in watching these characters with all their flaws, trying to make it day by day. +

I have been watching a lot of his films these past days, his early works I hadn't seen before (Life is Sweet, Meantime, High Hopes, Career Girls, Bleak Moments, even The Short & Curlies short movie!), and an all time favourite of mine, Another Year. +

So excited to see Secrets & Lies again (29 years later!) and discover Naked this coming weekend at the @cinemathequefr.bsky.social, with Mike Leigh himself attending and giving a talk.
He's one of my favourite filmmaker ever. +

Lettre d’Erik Satie à Suzanne Valadon.

I searched "old postcards" of the town I grew up in and this is what I found :)
I'd say early 20th century pictures?
I love that everyone wore hats.

Still thinking about that little improvised walk I took inside Notre Dame de Paris yesterday night. What a sight, and so many feelings and memories of going there in the years before the fire, when she was all dark. Now she is glowing 💫

First I love all the little touches about what life was like in rural Canada in the late 19th century. It was really tough. You could guess from the journals (I especially remember how Maud was always so cold in the long winters), but Rubio adds a lot of details. Women were such hard workers too.

Just finished the PEI years.
I am loving this already.
I read these journals entries maybe two years ago and remembered them vividly. Mary Rubio adds so much context and perspective on them, it’s making me reconsider a lot of things…

A year of readings!
25 books is not super impressive but I tried my best, and compared to previous years I am pretty pleased to have read that much, and also very different books (three volumes of Lucy Maud Montgomery's selected journals was an odyssey!)
Looking forward to more books in 2025!
