We are all private senators on the floor of our own lives. Think about it.

I'm real torn up about this too. Community involvement is often more viscerally impactful both to the volunteer and those who are aided. Community activism 2 - avg MN citizens are our Lexington and Concord in this moment. The idea that the activism stops before or after the ballot box is hurting ppl

Actually Jesus loved nuclear arms races.

Is it written in an underground zine somewhere in a shitty bar in portland that says "if you vote the anarchy police will hereby rescind your punk license"?

I'm pretty sure we can all vote for whoever isn't Trump and still have enough street cred to be throw bricks through a Starbucks window.
February 6, 2026 at 6:54 PM
And yeah I'm painfully aware of how shitty things are - but the solution isn't refusing to eat my vegetables. We can vote for the non openly fascist candidate AND do these other things concurrently as opposed to doing neither.
February 6, 2026 at 6:50 PM
God, I'm so fucking tired of this shit. This "voting doesn't result in meaningful change" or "incrementalism is actually bad" does nothing to further progressive policies . What it *actually* does is increase voter nihilism from demographics that would otherwise vote blue - hence Trump.

Federal employee here, I work routinely with USFWS, EPA, NOAA, NMFS, and FEMA peeps... Or the ones who still remain. There are good people doing good things for the fed, and it's becoming harder and harder to do them. It's bleak.

Yeah, big brain fart. Yet, the *sentiment* that Dems fail to act decisively (when in a majority) persists. It's rough out on these streets.

My point precisely, subversion is an aspiration, making a mess of, challenging local results, and undermining voter confidence is a much more achievable goal, and one they have the power to do with lickspittles heading the DOJ, FBI, DHS, among others.
February 5, 2026 at 2:28 PM
But realistically, I think it's niave to think we can look ahead to the 2026 midterms and assume that the will of the people will be accepted without a fair amount of screaming and kicking on behalf of the current admin.
February 5, 2026 at 2:26 PM
Which, optimistically - could backfire as public opinion turns further from the current admin and from this mess we get better. Alternatively, it sets the stage for further corruption and power consolidation in the hands of the wrong people. Or both? Hard to say.
February 5, 2026 at 2:23 PM
What concerns me is federal government interference, stalling, investigating, challenging local results in contested races and we go weeks-months without seating elected members. Making a litigious mess of elections will undermine voter confidence and embolden complicit state government fuckery.
