Doing some maintenance on Hoshiguma's Shield in preparation for local convention next week... I forgot thread locker is a thing... 🙃
Luckily, the other three bolts held on for remainder of Otakon, so prop was still okay.
Hoshiguma's Shield, partially disassembled to show individual parts that make up the center non rotating section. There is a silver oni face on the left, the back plate in the center, and handle plate on the right. Various fasteners are also laid out in front of the shield, along with tools for maintenance.

Ears!
Ear shaped accessories, showing the foam core and the golden faux fur being glued to them. The tube of glue in the center is Aleene's Original, Quick Dry Fabric Fusion. The same ears with a beige piece of flannel glued to the top to cover the raw edges of the faux fur. A metal alligator clip is shown, it will be used as the device to clip these ears to hair. The same ears with white faux fur being glued on. The puffs of faux fur adds cuteness and also covers the flat base of the ears. The ears completed. There is an extra atrip of faux fur remaining on the left hand side.

Ugh... So busy lately... I've not been slacking off too much from cosplay work, just haven't taken as many pictures nor had time to post. So... here: Nearl's beautiful, fluffy, and soft tail.
Nearl's tail reflected in a mirror. Her tail is a blonde colour, and looks very fluffy. It is suspended a few inches above the floor, the wearer of the tail is not visible.

Painting mostly complete, a few touch ups to do here and there, missing a decal on the front, and some other patterns/designs on the sides.
Mostly painted prop, the edges are painted white, the center painted black. There are 3 black strips on the edges. The center of the prop has painter's tape masking off a section that should have paint on it.

Sanded off the edges (I should try investing in a hot knife...) and painting in progress.
Nearl's shield sitting on it's side, on top of some paper sheets and impact mat foam edges. The shield's edges are now beveled. Shield prop in a custom paint booth/fume hood. The beveled edges have been Plasti-dipped white, and the core is plasti-dipped black.

Well, it's glued together...
Two sides of Nearl's shield before gluing together. The impact foam looks shiny as there is a layer of contact cement applied to both sides. Two halves of the foam pieces glued together. The prop is standing vertically on the table. There is a small gap between the two pieces, it will be fixed later.

Haven't been slacking on the shield btw. Image of the fasteners that will permanently hidden/glued once the two "halves" of the shield are glued together.

Unrelated prop off to the left, points if you recognize where that is from.

Didn't take pictures of painting, but here's a mostly completed axe instead. Just missing a few decals.
Nearl's battle axe with the "wings" folded. The prop is mostly painted. The silver blades and spear tip contrasts nicely(?) with the black body. Logos are currently missing from the axe, and will be applied later. Nearl's battle axe, with the "wings" deployed.

Glued and clamped the top plate to the core. To reduce some weight, also drilled some holes in the core piece of wood.

Made a round thing with groves!

Also working on shield this weekend.
This is a bit of hidden engineering that no one except me will ever see. Exercise mats are soft and flexible, however for a shield prop, I need it to be rigid. Cutting a channel for a metal bar to sit in the center solves the floppiness problem.
Exercise mat cut into a diamond shape with a hole in the center. There are also two metal bars bent and placed into the exercise mat. A closer view of how the metal bars sit in the exercise mat. A channel is cut so that the metal bar can sit half way in the exercise mat.

Weekend progress!
Cut out the top part of the mace using a thicker piece of plywood to ensure the rings on each side are strong enough to handle the wings of the mace rotating multiple times (it's the challenge for myself this time!)
Wood pieces placed together as a mock up of how the finished product will look. There focus is the 5 wooden items in the picture, two "wings" of the mace, two more shaped pieces that resembles a upside down pot with a pointed base, and a longer wooden piece. There is also two paper templates in the picture used to create the mace's wings.
