Is that an idealistic position? Maybe. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying to create such a world for ourselves and the generations that follow. Because what we’re currently doing clearly isn’t working. So power to the people, the workers, and the ordinary citizens who deserve to have a say.

Instead of political and economic molechs and masters who control our lives, what I believe we’re called to establish is a cooperative, global, free association of human beings, setting the stage for the coming ‘messianic era’ of peace, freedom, and a truly just society.

Moreover, the logic of this kind of social relation dooms the ruling powers-that-be to often impose harmful policies and relations, then force society to conform to them, highlighting the structural and theological flaws of statism regardless if the ruler’s anointed, elected or takes power by force.

And one lesson I take from these books is, anyone in that position will generally fail or fall short because kings — and the state by extension — are taking the place of God and what God represents in contrast to the devouring gods of greed and power, such as the infant-hungry Molech.

However, in the end, Saul makes mistakes and falls short (as all humans do), instituting an era of kings who’ll either start off well-intentioned but eventually become corrupted by power or greed and fail in some way, or are corrupt, greedy, and evil from the get-go.
