I just walked past this in our garden and was reminded that fostering is so much more than social workers, local authorities, care reviews, supervision, reports and training.

It’s about love.
It’s about family.
It’s about wellies (some muddier than others) which hold memories of fun days out.

This is just awful news and serves to remind us all of the bravery and sacrifice from our public servants. When the alarms go off at work, we exit the building as they enter.

With such endemic prejudice towards care experienced children, it's not enough to simply trust our judgement.

Not when the stakes are so high!

There is a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding the decisions taken which lead to children entering care. This can result in a skewed public perception of those who work to keep children safe, and indeed the children who experience care.

One thing we have learnt from the US this week is that progress towards equality should never be taken for granted.

It’s tempting to assume that rights for oppressed groups get better over time and that this only moves in one direction.

Our foster boy (who joined our family 3 days before Christmas last year) is currently practicing a little tune for tomorrow 👏🏼❤️

As the end of term approaches, I’d like to wish a very happy Christmas to those teaching and school staff who go the extra mile for children with care experience.

I know first-hand what an incredible difference you make. Thank you 🙏🏼

I love being a foster dad!

There are so many things to be thankful for. Tonight’s joy was watching our foster daughter sing in the school choir during their carol service ❤️

I've been teaching @birminghamnewman.bsky.social for twelve years. During this time, one recurring theme in my conversations with first-year students is their fear of not being "good enough"—that they are not "academic" enough. Just yesterday, this very topic came up during a tutorial in my office 🧵

Our Labrador celebrates her milestone 15th birthday today!

For most of her long life, she has welcomed and loved our foster children without condition. And they have loved her in return ❤️
